Question by Lilly: Using debit/credit card at MTA Metro Card Machines?
How do you use your debit or credit card when you’re buying a metro card at a machine? It doesn’t look like there’s any place to put in your pin number. Do you enter it on the touch screen?

Ok so when you slide your credit card in the machine, just below is a keypad. The keypad is located directly next to where you would slide your card. You would need to enter your pin # and zip code (if applicable).

Question by cranford72: Anybody know anything about wireless credit card machines that run over cell phone lines?

I don’t think so. Maybe what you are thinking about is the credit card machine that the salesman carry. But this just stores the info and then is downloaded.

Question by : Is there a machine that can read credit cards wirelessly?
I was in class the other day when I heard of students discussing a machine that can fit into your pocket and read credit cards. So apparently you could fit this machine into your pocket, walk past people on the street and it would just read and copy their credit card info into it. They claimed some news station like GMA did a report on it, however I’ve had zero luck in searching for any webpage that even mentions this devices existence. If anyone else has heard of this can you link me to the information? Otherwise it all sounds highly suspect

It’s called RFID. The way to sell new wallets is that you can protect your credid card RFID from being read with a new “aluminum” wallet.

You can “read all about it” here http://www.google.com/search?q=rfid+and+credit+cards&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=&rlz=1I7ADFA_en

Question by : How do credit card payments machines work?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Josh
Each credit card has a magnetic strip and the machine reads the strip in binary code (computer language) and reads the details of the card and prepares it to be sent to the credit card network where you are either accepted or declined.

Not sure about how many clients you have, but it’s an awful expense to have for just a few people with big costs. Why not get the check machine that will verify that the funds are in the account immediately? And swipe before you start working! Or, demand cash. It doesn’t bounce!

Question by Bryan: Credit Card Number lawsuit?
I need some legal advice because this kinda woke me up. I ate at a restaurant tonight and paid with my visa check card, the guy gave me my reciept from the credit card machine, and instead of giving me the customer copy he gave me the merchant copy. I looked, and my entire string of my credit card number was on that copy with the exp date. My thought was if they have an employee planning to go nuts… they can take my credit card and go shopping. Do I have grounds to file a lawsuit here?

Check with an attorney, but probably not. What would you sue for? The guy hasn’t done anything wrong with it yet.

I think that’s almost like asking what life would be like if no one invented a car or television. To me it seems inevitable that someone would have come up with the idea. Particularly since similar ideas already existed. Farmers bought supplies at the company store. When the harvest came in they paid back the store. It was only a matter of time before people agreed to contract out that risk of non-payment.

Question by : Credit Card Machines For Small Business – Which is Best Free Terminal or pay-for?
I realize a free terminal is great, but usually comes with a contract like verizon, etc. But a paid terminal may not have all the updates by the FTC for free, and you could end up being fined if your terminal doesn’t receive all the updates. (what I’ve heard)

Some people like to think they’re saving money by buying one, in a sense they are but it’s risky, if you aren’t processing with a terminal that is updated for FTC guidelines each month, you could run the risk of fines, etc. So I say get a terminal through a good company, like crescent, link above.
