first thing is there is NO such thing as a International Drivers license
if see ads for this you are being scammed there is something called
a international drivers permit but all this is a piece of paper which
is translation your regular drivers license into several different languages that all the IDP is
2ND why are you asking something that happen 9 years ago now?
I also noticed you never said what state you where
a lot of states have Highway patrol officers
just name some California, Nevada, North Carolina, etc

Yes you are scammed. The officer cannot collect the fines. You have to pay only to the court.
Also, speeding is an infraction violation and you cant be arrested for this.

Do you have the credit card statement which contains this transaction?
I do not think we can do anything since this happenned 9 years ago.

some states do this. it’s better to get payment then and be done with it. as well the states that do do this add no points or insurance hikes to your driving if you pay it on the spot. I do not know the states that still do this. I do know that PA. does not do this. ..

.. it’s not a scam it is to insure that they recive payment. mainly in states that border other countries. ie. mexico.

Try going to a local electronics store and asking for a machine that authorizes Debit and Credit cards. Read the manual on how to hook it up and you’re good to go.

I used to have a small business, and used a company that used software to process c/c transactions over the internet. They had good rates, and the software allowed all kinds of reports and was easy to use. Doesn’t store user c/c numbers on your computer, either, so it is as safe as using a regular credit card machine. Also, I only needed a $ 69 credit card “swiper” that plugs into a usb port – no expensive machine. That company was called “x-charge”, http://www.x-charge.com, and I liked them, but I am sure there are others out there. Google “credit card processor over internet”. Might even be able to use PayPal, they have a merchant system too.
This all assumes that you have a broadband internet connection.

You apparently have a computer and Internet access. So there are Credit Card Terminals you can hook up to a computer and it will then go through your existing network to the Internet. Which ironically is actually called a LAN(Local Area Network). Not only can you cancel one of the land lines, but you don’t need to use a cell phone. Not to say that a Cell Phone can not be used, but unless you are in the field doing charges that is not the best way.

I would suggest that you talk to the company that handles the Credit Card processing for your business. They should be able to give you several suggestions as to what terminal would be best for you. If you actually don’t have a CC Terminal now, contact the Business Services department of the bank your boss uses. They should also be able to get you started in the right direction.

It could have been demagnetized somehow.

I also know that when I have had a debit or credit card I use a lot, just the sheer use of it by running it through a machine can scratch or wear it down.

Maybe your cell phone scraped it up and it cannot be read. As long as they can manually put it in, you should be ok til you get a new card. I have had to get replacement cards because the magnetic strip would wear out.

Whatever it is…. it won’t change the fact that you need to call Amex and tell them you need a new card because your magnetic strip is demagnetized.

It can happen when your card gets too close to a magnetic field including exposure to a magnet, eel skin wallets and any and all other electronic devices. The only one that will immediately demagnetize the strip is the good old magnet. Usually in the form of a name tag that has been thrown into a purse. All other electronic devices (cell phones) will toy with your card’s strip for months on end without any damage and then decide all the sudden to do their dirty deed when you need the card the most.

I corrupted a hotel keycard with a cell phone once. I suppose the same thing can happen to a credit card.
