If they scan the credit cards with the X-ray machine will it destroy the credit card?Best answer:

No. X-Rays are not strong enough magnetically to ruin the credit card strip, I have traveled via airport dozens of time and not had any issues with my credit cards not working.Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

they wont scan the actual cards themselves but if your worried about it tell them & they might just hang onto them while you get scanned & then hand them back

No. I fly a LOT, and I put my wallet in the little plastic tray to go through the x-ray machine all the time. Never had a problem.
The strip on credit cards operates on magnetism. The x-ray machines operate on x-rays which have no magnetic properties at all.
So don’t worry, your cards will be fine.
The only thing to worry about is certain speeds of photographic film, but most people use digital cameras now anyway, so this is also pretty much a non-issue.

People have been flying with credit cards in their wallets and purses, and putting them through x-ray machines and metal detectors for at least 20 years – you would have heard about this if it was a problem.

It shouldn’t as lots of people have to run their credit cards through the X-ray machine. I have done it many times and it does not ruin the card. What hurts the magnetic strip on the card I think is constant swiping on the credit card machine at the cash register.
