Well, just to cover yourself from identity theft, I would call up the bank and cancel the card, and have a new one issued for you.

Question by revenantxheart: Credit Card Imprints are illegal?
I work at a hotel in Arkansas and I just had a guest from Nevada yell at me telling me that credit card imprints are now illegal. I don’t understand why american express would issue a credit card machine if they were illegal and if they were just recently made illegal why they wouldn’t call/mail all of the people they issued them to. He said that we can keep doing it until someone sues us I’m assuming he means himself since I imprinted it anyway it sounded to me like something was fishy since we have government and military people stay with us all the time and haven’t said a word, he told me it was due to the new privacy acts or something like that but i couldn’t find anything on it. It is a legitimate credit card imprinting machiene issued by american express.
Wow thanks alot! I thought it might be something like that, I know that we put them on reg. cards in case our system and back up both go down, and also to make sure the number in the computer and the number on the reg card match since people like to switch c.c. at check in and the computer doesn’t always save the second card so the wrong card could get charged. I feel a whole lot better now haha I just didn’t want my manager and what not to get in trouble. I’ve only been doing front desk for about 7 months since my hotel opened like i said we have lawyers and high ranking govt. officals come through all the time so i assumed that they would have told me by now.

    they are not illegal.
if the guest does not want to submit an imprint, consult ur manager, and ask his advice.

I work as a hotel manager, and I will kindly direct the guest to another hotel if he doesn’t want to submit an imprint.

the reason for this: yes, it would suck to lose his business, but it would suck more to have his business, and not be paid for your services.

    example:

He stays at your hotel, with no imprint of his credit card. the total for his stay is $ 400.

He then reports to his credit card company, after seeing the bill on his statement, that it was not him who stayed there, and his stay was unauthorized. the credit card company then contacts the hotel, and asks for all paperwork regarding the stay, including signed registration card, signed credit card reciept if available, as well as the imprint of the card.

fail to prouce ANY one of these documents and there’s a good chance the credit card company will honor his accusation that you let someone else use his credit card, and take the money back from you, give it back to him.

short answer: if he doesn’t want an imprint made, politely refuse him service, and direct him to a nearby hotel, OR: if you have an atm on the premises, or nearby, direct him to the atm and have him withdraw sufficient cash for the room, plus any security deposit u assess to hotel guests.

Question by I want to be 165 xD: What is the best way to say “no credit cards, cash only”?
Our telephone service in my restaurant has been temporarily disconnected so our credit card machine doesn’t work. What is the best way to say that we can’t accept credit cards due to telephone disconnection? Should I just write, “Due to our temporarily unavailable phone service, credit cards will NOT be accepted. We are sorry for this inconvenience. Thank You”

That sounds like an excellent way to say it.

Question by mack k: Will my credit card still be charged?
I recently made a purchase at a department store, the amount was over $ 200.00. I swiped my american express card in the machine and pressed credit and pressed ok when the amount came up, the clerk then gave me the slip to sign. When I got home I realized that the store clerk put not only my copy of the charge slip in the bag but the store copy as well. Will this charge still show up on my amex?

    Best answer:

    Answer by dancinghawk_wolf
It’ll still show up on your Amex (if you’re not sure, call the number on the back of your card for the latest charges, or talk to customer service) but someone at the department store may be eventually tearing their hair out because something doesn’t balance. Drop off the store copy of the charge slip when you get a chance.

Question by cranford72: Anybody know anything about wireless credit card machines that run over cell phone lines?

    Answer by whtcamp
I don’t think so. Maybe what you are thinking about is the credit card machine that the salesman carry. But this just stores the info and then is downloaded.

Question by : Is there a machine that can read credit cards wirelessly?
I was in class the other day when I heard of students discussing a machine that can fit into your pocket and read credit cards. So apparently you could fit this machine into your pocket, walk past people on the street and it would just read and copy their credit card info into it. They claimed some news station like GMA did a report on it, however I’ve had zero luck in searching for any webpage that even mentions this devices existence. If anyone else has heard of this can you link me to the information? Otherwise it all sounds highly suspect

It’s called RFID. The way to sell new wallets is that you can protect your credid card RFID from being read with a new “aluminum” wallet.

You can “read all about it” here http://www.google.com/search?q=rfid+and+credit+cards&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=&oe=&rlz=1I7ADFA_en

Question by : How do credit card payments machines work?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Josh
Each credit card has a magnetic strip and the machine reads the strip in binary code (computer language) and reads the details of the card and prepares it to be sent to the credit card network where you are either accepted or declined.
