Question by Polkadot Pajamas: What does it mean when your credit card takes a looong time to go through at the machine?
What about not near Christmas time nor any other major holidays? This one time i was swiping at the hotel and the clerk was giving me looks lol. My card was nearly maxed out at that time, but I don’t get why that would cause the process to be slower?

Answer by Scott N
No. X-Rays are not strong enough magnetically to ruin the credit card strip, I have traveled via airport dozens of time and not had any issues with my credit cards not working.Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

Question by : I bartend in Texas and my employer takes something like 1% of our credit card tips.?
They say it is for using the credit card machines. On average it is like $ 3 but sometimes can be as much as $ 7. That adds up over time. On average they make like $ 30 a night on this. Just want to know if it is legal.Best answer:

I’m not sure whether or not it is legal or not, but in the UK, we get taxed on credit card tips – so we prefer if customers leave actual cash tips. Also, it does cost the employers for every transaction on the machines.
If this happens in Texas, it could be one of the reasons why your employer is taking a cut – so they can re-compensate money they have spent paying tax/using the machines. If you are unhappy about this, try encouraging your customers to leave cash tips – just explain that you get taxed on credit card tips so only end up with a small percentage of the tip.
