Question by Polkadot Pajamas: What does it mean when your credit card takes a looong time to go through at the machine?

What about not near Christmas time nor any other major holidays? This one time i was swiping at the hotel and the clerk was giving me looks lol. My card was nearly maxed out at that time, but I don’t get why that would cause the process to be slower?

It means it’s ten days before Christmas and all the verification systems are overloaded.

Sister is on the phone and credit cards machine is not working while she on it. So is there anything machine that i can use for one phone line while my credit cards machine and the phone uses at the same time??

There are 2 possibilities:
1. Get a 2nd phone line
2. Get a DSL line with a mini-PBX. This is basically the same as getting a 2nd physical ‘line’ but the electronics of the DSL system puts 2 virtual lines onto a single physical line.

You’ll have to call your phone company to find out which one is cheaper. Also… ask them if your credit card machine will be able to transmit and receive over DSL. Sometimes the modems inside those machines will not work over certain types of DSL modems.

Question by jeff s: Every time someone uses a cancelled credit card to buy parking tickets from a machine is the company notified?
whenever i go to downtown vancouver homeless people are trying to sell me parking tickets they buy from automated machines using stolen (then cancelled) cards. are the card companies able to track these transactions once a card is cancelled? can the police catch these people?

It’s difficult to catch a specific person using a credit card at a machine unless there are video cameras. Even then, it’s so little money, it’s probably not worth the credit card company’s time.
