  • No such thing. That is how the credit card companies make a HUGE chunk their money. No company is going to provide one of its main revenue streams completely free outside of a promo period.

  • There are 2 elements… the hardware and the service. You didn’t specify which you were seeking. Many service providers offer free hardware for signing up. Otherwise, you need to get your own hardware. You can get good deals on ebay and the like,

  • You will have to do some shopping around for the best pricing for merchant services – but you will not find any free services. Many merchant service companies will also offer a terminal for lease or purchase, or you can find your own to purchase (as long as it is compatible with the company).

    Good luck!

  • There is no such thing. Credit cards exist because they make money off the transaction itself. You cannot accept credit cards without paying a fee in some form.

If you are an online business only, you do not need an actual machine.

If you have an iphone or ipod touch, check out https://squareup.com/ Very low fees.

  • If you need a merchant account for your business, its good to know what you are selling. This way you could find out if you can sell online or need an actual terminal. My company has extremely fair rates and does offer a free gateway for e-commerce businesses. As for the terminals you could buy one from my company for not too much money or you could try and find one for sale on sites such as ebay or craigslist (keep in mind you get what you pay for) some machines are old outdated broken or simply are slow and hard to understand. If you purchase through a company you are guaranteed service included for your machine and 24/7 customer service. Also, it should not have to be a huge amount for termination of contract. If you need any help setting up a service please contact me. Good luck !

  • Hi Cynthia! As some others have indicated here, there are service providers out there that do indeed offer FREE terminals. Typically, there is no “catch” to it and, for example, a couple of the companies I write for simply ask that if you leave them at any time, simply send back the terminal. Most processors will have a contract term (usually 3 years) and if you terminate early, there will be some fee involved so the bottom line is, if you are looking for merchant services, whether it be a click and order or brick and mortar type business, make sure you get thoroughly educated before signing on the dotted line. The terminal is the least of your concerns because others here have said, you could always buy one on-line (DON’T EVER LEASE ONE!!!) but here again, if I were you, buy one (if that’s the path you take) that is new so you have up to date technology that will serve you well for many years. And, as far as pricing for accepting credit cards for payment in your business, there are many pricing models that can be offered to you so, again, be sure you get educated and ask all the important questions before signing with anyone. Hope this helps.
