Question by Ash148: Is it illegal to refuse service to someone for no reason & not allowing to use credit card if machine present?
I went in to a store to purchase something, there was a sign which said transactions over $ 20 can be charged with a card. My total was over $ 20. The owner refused to let me use my card. I asked why, “he said you are not allowed to use your credit card”. I said well, there is no sign up stating that. He answered, “I don’t have to put any signs up” and kicked me out of the store and did not let me purchase anything. Is this not illegal???? I would like to file a complaint but not sure how to go about this… any suggestions out there?????????

What about not near Christmas time nor any other major holidays? This one time i was swiping at the hotel and the clerk was giving me looks lol. My card was nearly maxed out at that time, but I don’t get why that would cause the process to be slower?

If they scan the credit cards with the X-ray machine will it destroy the credit card?

No. X-Rays are not strong enough magnetically to ruin the credit card strip, I have traveled via airport dozens of time and not had any issues with my credit cards not working.

At the cash registre there is usually a small machine where the customer can swipe their own card and sign/type in a pin. Does anyone know what that machine is called?

i was on aquabid.com and i saw a fish that i really liked. i won the bid for that fish and then i called the guy to ask him how i should pay him cause i’m new to this. he said you can pay by western union or by credit card, i said i would pay with credit card and he asked me for my card number. he said he owns a nail salon business in a different state and he has a credit machine there or something. is it safe to give credit card information over the phone to him?
